The Paddington Antique Centre recently held an evening talk about collecting glass. Glass in all its forms is a huge area; one in which you don’t realise how little you know until you start to learn about it.
PAC’s resident glass and ceramics expert, Stan Prickett, talked about everything from carnival glass, elegant glass, cameo, milk and depression glass to art glass and many of the wonderful makers such as Thomas Webb and Sons, Galle, Daum, Loetz and Louis Comfort Tiffany.
He drew on some wonderful examples from the Centre and from private collections that helped illustrate the intricacies of the various techniques being discussed.
For those of us intrigued by the intricacies of glass making, this was a tremendously valuable talk that increased our appreciation of this marvellous collectable.
PAC plans to hold future talks on ceramics, jewellery, and silver and, by popular request, a follow-up to the glass discussion.
The talks are free, although prior registration is required. Wine and cheese is served following the discussion.
