50 plus dealers in one great location

The Paddington Antique Centre was established in May 1985 in the historic old Plaza Theatre building in Paddington Queensland.

Our 50 specialist dealers present an ever-changing selection of antiques and collectables. Under new management from 2008, the Centre is at the heart of Brisbane's thriving antiques scene - and holds regular special events for collectors and the general public.

Many come to Paddington not only to browse through an unrivalled range of antiques, but also to marvel at the remarkable Plaza building. Construction of the building began in 1929 and the theatre opened for business in September 1930. One of only two remaining "Atmospheric Theatres" in Australia, it was part of the short-lived Picture Palace movie theatre phenomenon. A building with a basic exterior was lavishly decorated internally in the styles of the great architectural monuments and palaces to provide luxurious theatre accommodation at a reasonable building cost.

The building is of timber with rendered brick at either end and along the street.

The roof is gabled and clad with corrugated iron and the northern part of the building is supported by tall piers because of the steepness of the site. The theatre foyer and eight retail shops occupy the Latrobe Terrace frontage and feature black ceramic tiles and silky oak joinery. more ...
